Bible Question: What does it mean to be an "evangelist". |
Bible Answer: I think we should look at a bible example to see. Acts Chapter 8 gives us the example of Philip and we see one that is gifted in the gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as gifts of preaching the Gospel. Acts 8:5-8 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city. Also we see that Philip was gifted in teaching and making the word of God clear as to how the prophets proclaimed Christ... Acts 8:30-31 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. Acts 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. So we see Philip is supernaturaly caught away to another place. Then we see Philips Daughters who no doubt were greatly influenced by the preaching and the example of Philip Acts 21:8-9 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. I love the Bible. It makes clear God's thoughts and blows away the smoke of doubt and unbelief. We see that an evangelist is one that not only has a gift to preach Jesus Christ and make men know how to be saved. But also one who operates in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit for today. Praise God for his unspeakable Gift. |
