Ephesians 2:3 Among these [unbelievers] we all once lived in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by the sinful self], indulging the desires of human nature [without the Holy Spirit] and [the impulses] of the [sinful] mind. We were, by nature, children [under the sentence] of [God's] wrath, just like the rest [of mankind].

Bible Question:  Why do children lie?

Bible Answer:  Greetings Leslie!

Welcome to the Study Bible Forum!

The scriptures teach us that by nature we are children of wrath.

Ephesians 2:1-3 (NASB)
2:1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.
2:3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

and that all of us sin

Romans 3:23 (NASB) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

A child is no different then an adult regarding their sinful nature. A child will sin because it is their nature to sin. None of us grow up and become sinners. We grow up sinning because it is in our nature to do so. Just like it is with all of us, the child has no hope other then Jesus Christ. For only through Him will anyone be saved (John 3:16, Romans 6:23, John 14:6, Acts 4:12).
