AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 4:31 So then, believers, we [who are born again--reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose] are not children of a slave woman [the natural], but of the free woman [the supernatural]. |
Bible Question:
Been looking at the aspect of obedience in the bible listed in several passages. Duet 13.4 Ex 24.7 Josh 1.8 Rom 6.16,17,18 John 12.26 Matt 7.16,17 John 14.12 1Cor 15.58 I am sure quite a few others. My question is are we referring to works here when we speak of obedience as in working or way to heaven or rewards are just desiring to serve him and it is not works? Sorry I can't make it clearer. Does obedience equals works? Believe on the Lord Jesus and be saved ? Are we saying we have to work to be saved or just saying or works will show as we are Christians? Fred |
Bible Answer: Fred, When you are in Christ your works are "through Him, with Him and in Him." Which is an entirely different thing from works outside of Christ. See Galatians 4:21-31 for a good analogy from St. Paul. The "obedience of faith" is the filial response in the context of a Father / child relationship. "Works of the Law" are the servile response in the context of a Master / slave relationship. Emmaus |
