Bible Question: Does "unequally yoked" mean that you should not marry someone that have different beliefs than you? example: If one thinks everyone has the gift os speaking in tongues and the other doesn't. Even if they are both Christians and have the same beliefs about everything else in the bible. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Sarah H. The very next verse answers your question. 2 Cor 6:15 says, "Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?" Oneness in Christ is not dependent upon doctrinal differences. But this is not to say that doctrinal differences may be difficult to overcome . . . check out the Forum, I can't imagine being married to some of the respondants here! We would be arguing theology every waking moment, and there are much better things to do in a marriage than argue, don't you agree? Can two walk together unless they be agreed? (Amos 3:3) If this is a personal consideration for you, I suggest that you seek objective spiritual counselling. This means to find a Pastor or a trained Christian therapist that is independent of both partner's denominations. They can offer you insight into how to deal with your theological differences and help you to determine if these differences would be roadblocks to a successful relationship. Blessings, mommapbs |
