Bible Question: I was told that the Great Commission was great because it was for the salvation of the human race, and it was the Lord who says it, and should therefore be fulfilled to the instruction as given. Being very observant, it become very obvious to me that the GREAT COMMISSION becomes the GREAT OMISSION becasue each time the Gospel salvation is preached, I frequently noticed the evangelists omit the instruction of baptism. They simply end the crusade with "Accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your Persoanl Lord and Savior." Don't they have to include baptism in their messages and acceptance? |
Bible Answer: arapga, The "great commission" is not called so in scripture. Also, the only "verb" or action in the verse is "to make disciples." As to baptism being required for salvation- that has been hotly debated on this Forum. I'll offer my scriptural view and that is this: Titus 3:5,"He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, ..." Interestingly, Paul in his clear statement of the "gospel" in 1 Cor. 15:1-4, does not mention baptism either! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
