NASB | 1 Corinthians 8:1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 8:1 Now about food sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge [concerning this]. Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom]. |

Bible Note: This is an excellant example of where it is imperative to re-read the text after reading some commentator. Paul is not talking about "eating one kind of food, and abstaining from another"; the verse explicitly says "concerning the food of the idol sacrifices". |
