NASB | 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 6:18 Run away from sexual immorality [in any form, whether thought or behavior, whether visual or written]. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the one who is sexually immoral sins against his own body. |
Bible Question: Why is the NASB the only translation that leaves out reference to sexual immorality? All other translations/versions that I've seen (KJV,NKJV, Amplified, NIV, NCV, ASV) specify sexual immorality. Just wondering what the original text says, and why this was omitted. Thanks |
Bible Answer: tellicojoe The word translated here is "porneia" is the basis of our word pornography. Definition NASB Greek Hebrew Dictionary Updated edition from Greek 4203 fornication:— fornication(4), fornications(2), immoralities(1), immorality(16), sexual immorality(1), unchastity(1). Strong's Greek Hebrew dictionary porneia, por-ni'-ah; from Greek 4203 (porneuo); harlotry (including adultery and incest); figurative idolatry :- fornication. KJV Flee fornication. NKJV Flee sexual immorality. NASB Flee immorality. ESV Flee from sexual immorality. NLT Run away from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. I don't know why the NASB left out "sexual" but I in my understanding when I read immorality I'm thinking sexual. EdB |
