NASB | 1 Corinthians 5:6 ¶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 5:6 ¶ Your boasting [over the supposed spirituality of your church] is not good [indeed, it is vulgar and inappropriate]. Do you not know that [just] a little leaven ferments the whole batch [of dough, just as a little sin corrupts a person or an entire church]? |
Bible Question: Thanks for the response.Do you think this verse can only be applied to a congregation? If a novel or a t.v. show has one "steamy" episode does it mean that the entire entity is to be avoided? Or, is this an example of misinterpreting scripture or wrongfuly taking it out of context? |
Bible Answer: The principle of the illustration tells us "no", it's true in other matters as well. That is the nice thing about "Bible principles". And "yes", the principle very well can apply to movies. That's the point of it all. Just "a little" or just "one scene" can ruin the whole show. :-) |
