Subject: Internet loner Bible teachers |
Bible Note: Timely observation, JVH, about "Lone Ranger Christians" in these days of the Internet, which in some ways opens the world to us but closes the warm personal relationships between us. Actually the New Testament knows nothing of the lone ranger saint, separated and apart from the body of believers, the church. Unlike some pagan religions, Christianity stresses the idea of community. It is always "Our Father who art in heaven" -- never "My Father." The role and function of the Christian is always defined in terms of his being a member of the body, a branch of the Vine. The Internet can be used as a powerful and marvelous tool to spread the word of the good news of the gospel of Christ, but even it has his limitations. It never comes close to being the church or even a remote substitute for it. --Hank |
