Subject: communion: symbolic or something more? |
Bible Note: "Since the covenant that Jesus instituted is the Lords Supper, that same presence must be manifest in the elements of the covenant." When the 'covenant' is studied out, the elements of the Lord's Supper have to be symbolic. The New Covenant bought by Jesus shed blood is not 'symbolic'. The actual shedding of His blood is the initiation of the New Covenant. Had He not gone to the cross and shed His blood, there would be no covenant. When Jesus said as often as you do this, do in rememberance, means just that. The initiating of the covenant was done before the creation of the world. Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: And the first shed blood was in Genesis. Genesis 3:21 All the covenants of the Old Covenant were steps or the progression of God to the point of sending Jesus, the final sacrifice and the mediator of the New Covenant. Romans 8: 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood HE ENTEREND IN ONCE into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. I believe the New Covenant was initiated By God before the foundation of the world and became the active will upon the death of Jesus, when the blood was spilled. God bless |
