Bible Question: How cant the idea that the bread and the cup are only symbolic be supported in light of this verse? |
Bible Answer: I think you have to look at the entire paragraph for its proper context. Paul is writing about participating in the Lord's supper in an unworthy manner(having the wrong attitude). In verse 28; Paul writes: "A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgement on himself(Verse 29). What I have been taught, is that we should confess our sins before God, right any wrongs we have commmitted to others; before participating in the Lord's supper. |
