NASB | 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word--He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy]. |
Bible Question: Does the Bible say anything that concludes that God will not put more on us than we can bear? I found only a scripture that indicates that God will not tempt us more than we can withstand. However, I continue to hear this phrase in common talk. Please advise. |
Bible Answer: ashelton, Greetings and welcome to the forum. Look at 1 Corinthians 10:13. Look at it closely. It says no temptation has overtaken you. Why do we assume God is the one bringing the temptation. James 1:13 tells us God cannot be tempted by evil and that God doesnt tempt anyone. We will face all kinds of challenges and pressures in this life. 2 Timothy 3:12 tells us there will be persecution. If one is going to live for God this is just one of things we are gonna face. Philippians 4:13 We can do all things through Christ. Hebrews 12:5-11 God will allow things in our life, good or bad. But he will use them to mold and direct our character. As you encounter life's everyday challenges and obsticals always keep Ephesians 3:20 in mind. In Him, lionheart |
