AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 3:25 whom God displayed publicly [before the eyes of the world] as a [life-giving] sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation (propitiation) by His blood [to be received] through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness [which demands punishment for sin], because in His forbearance [His deliberate restraint] He passed over the sins previously committed [before Jesus' crucifixion]. |
Bible Question (short): Unpunished Sins? |
Question (full): This verse states that "He [God] did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished..." (NIV) Does this mean that God let the sins of the people before Christ's death go unpunished? Didn't they have to sacrifice animals, plants, incense, etc. to atone for their sins? If not, then what sins is this verse talking about and why did they go unpunished? |
