AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 3:25 whom God displayed publicly [before the eyes of the world] as a [life-giving] sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation (propitiation) by His blood [to be received] through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness [which demands punishment for sin], because in His forbearance [His deliberate restraint] He passed over the sins previously committed [before Jesus' crucifixion]. |
Bible Question: Can someone help me understand the meaning of Romans 3:25 where Paul talks about God, "in His forbearance" leaving the sins committed beforehand unpunished? I know that "beforehand" is referring to the time before Jesus actually died and rose again. What does Paul mean that those sins were left unpunished? Is it that those sinners who offered sacrifices had their sins forgiven on a "temporary" basis (as they looked foreword in faith to Christ's coming (even though they didn't know His name and the details)? Then, the atonement for all sin (past, present, future) through Jesus Christ made the confessed sin beforehand permanently and actually atoned for? Is this accurate and/or is there more to it? |
Bible Answer: Hi jlhetrick, We might meditate on and compare Hebrews 11:6 with your Romans 3:26 passage. Is Jesus the God of Noah only, or of the Jews only, or of the Gentiles only? God is one, and He justifies all by faith. I would be interested in how you might answer the question of terrib on the board now for Hebrews as regards faith. From the heart, Ray |
