Subject: Fruit inspectors |
Bible Note: Romans 14:4 (NASB) 4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. Too many of us have made ourselves fruit inspectors! Using Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. We want to judge the fruit of others lives and fail to judge the fruit of our own. Matthew 7:4-5 (NASB) 4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. We hear criticism of the world telling us they view the church as hypocrites and the church laughs it off saying we never claimed to be perfect but just under construction, and we are dealing with our faults. Are We? For far too long Christians have focused on the sins of others, instead of following hard after Christ. We want to criticize and complain about everything that we feel is wrong but we do nothing to correct ourselves. We feel it is our calling to slap a heretic down but fail to believe we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us. It is almost with glee that some will jump on someone that has their theology a little off or believe a little different than we do. Most do this claiming they must, that they are just fulfilling their “passion” for truth or they say some of the meanest things claiming they only have a “desire” to see others saved? Let us look at the rest of the Galatians 5 passage. Galatians 5:24 (NASB) 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Am I saying we should ignore the heretic, or allow falsehoods be presented as truths? No never! But we should deal with the problem in manner in which we would like be treated should the shoe be on the other foot. As Christians we are called to model Christ, we have never been called to be defenders of Christ nor fruit inspectors. The real proof of the pudding is to ask yourself if you have ever been called to defend your faith. Oh we might have to defend the Christianity we proclaim, our the doctrines we hold, or what we tell others we believe. But too few of us are ever asked to defend the Christ likeness that was seen in us. |
