Subject: what to say to those who smoke weed? |
Bible Note: I am an ex-pot smoker. I quit because I knew in my heart God didn't want me to smoke pot. On another note, if it hadn't been for my pot smoking Christian friends I would not have even considered becoming a Christian. Strange how God works. He causes all things, good and bad, to work together. Well I got convicted in my heart because it had become an idol to me. I couldn't go a day or two without it. I was a slave to marijuana. This was one of many things in my life that had me bound. We should all make application. We all have things that are trying to rise up as high places in our lives. Now I got the same argument with my friends saying they don't see anything wrong with it and that it is not sin. There are many places where this "herb" is not illegal. Would it be ok for me to smoke it then and there? Not for me, because God has spoken to me on this. So even if it became legal in my town I wouldn't be able to smoke it. I do however know from experience that a little puff doesn't make me out of control. I can smoke it without getting wasted. Just as I can have a drink of an alcoholic beverage w/out getting drunk. It all boils down to this . Do I have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? Is He speaking to your heart about the areas (the crafty little foxes of compromise) in your life that are robbing you of quality time spent with Jesus. We cannot serve both masters.***** (Matthew 6 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. )**** I know the verse talks about money but alot of the Bible has application to all the areas of our lives. Just as an id ol need not be a physical golden calf we bow down to. An idol can be any of the high places we set up in our lives and those high places we burn incense to. I see incense refering to our time, talent and treasure being wasted upon these vain pursuits. Again anything that rises up above God in our lives becomes an idol. Can you live without that thing, person or experince? You will not surely die. Tear down those high places. (1 Thessalonians 1 8The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia--your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.) |
