Bible Question:
Why do believers claim their tithes on their taxes? The Word says the tithe belongs to God.........since it belongs to God they why it being claimed to receive something from it.......... When God has promised that HE will open a window and pour out a blessing that we will not have room enough to receive. |
Bible Answer: Greetings, lifechanger. I agree that the tithe belongs to God. In my opinion, the government should only assess taxes on 90 percent of our income, since the first 10 percent is God's. (Of course, not everyone believes the first 10 percent is God's. This is the way I understand it, though.) However, I don't think that idea will float in Washington D.C. :) That being said, I guess we should consider it a blessing that our government allows any kind of tax break at all for our tithes and other charitable contributions. By allowing charitable contributions to be listed with other itemized deductions on Schedule C, the taxpayer's total tax liability is reduced marginally. In other words, the government 'graciously' taxes us at a lower rate on money we give to God. I won't be surprised when this deduction is no longer allowed. (Then it will become apparent who is giving and tithing just to receive a tax break and who is doing it because they really love God. :) ) Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Preacher |
