Bible Question: Is it bad to speak ill of our leaders. I understand we are to pray for them, which I see as a necessity, but even Jesus called the leaders a band of vipers. I have been told it is bad to speak ill of leaders. What is right? |
Bible Answer: Hi, queen... Welcome to the forum! Moralism abounds; but asking "What would Jesus do" is probably a lot less valuable a guideline than to ask "What did Jesus tell us to do?" Here are some verses to consider: 1 Samuel 2:7-8; Job 12:18; 34:24-39; Proverbs 8:15-16; Daniel 2:21; Luke 1:51-52. These are only a few verses, we could list many, many more like them. You will see that the Scripture teaches that God places kings in authority. Furthermore, Scripture affirms that God even is in charge of their hearts (Proverbs 21:1; Daniel 4:35; Acts 7:10). Now consider this question: If God is ultimately sovereign over all these things, with whom are we really finding fault when we speak ill of those in authority? In Him, Doc |
