Bible Question: I've seen a lot of answers on the question of lesbianism and gays. I have been a "Christian" for 16 yrs. and am just now coming out of the closet. I am a lesbian and proud of it. I may not fit in with so-called "Christianity", but I know that I still serve the same God that I served before I came out. The very same one who's son is Jesus Christ. I've hidden my lesbianism all my life, I have now fallen in love and no longer willing to hide behind what society and "christianity" call normal. Does this make me a bad person? |
Bible Answer: Dear tejuvaliqu, You've asked a very difficult question in which to give a brief answer, I'll also assume that you're asking because you want a Christian perspective from the Word of God! First off, lesbianism doesn't make a person bad. Simply, Romans 3:23 says that we've ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Whether we're homosexual or heterosexual- we're all sinners in need of a Savior. By stating that you've been a Christian for 16 years, I take it to mean that you've accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?! If you have, great. Second, how do you deal with the weight of scripture from Lev.18;22, Rom. 1:18-28, 1 Cor. 6:9, and 1 Tim. 1:10- which all condemn homosexuality. How do you interpret these? Particularly, how do interpret Rom. 1:26? Realize that God loves the sinner ( you and me) be He hates the sin:-) As 1 Cor. 6:11 says, "such were some of you,but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God." If you've been saved, then you're a new creature according to 2 Cor. 5:17. Why would you continue in willful, sinful behavior that scripture is clear about? So, in answer to you again, lesbianism does not "make you a bad person", you're sinful nature does! If that sinful nature has been forgiven by Christs' death on the cross, I implore you to have a walk worthy of your calling and turn from the lie of politically correct, if-it-feels-good-do-it lifestyle. The bottom line is this: God loves you and has forgiven you of your sin. If you are continuing in the lesbian lifestyle, you're being openly disobediant to God. Speaking The Truth In Love, BradK |
