Subject: What does Romans 2:12 mean? |
Bible Note: Once (defined). "4...- once and for all 1 : with finality : DEFINITIVELY 2 : for the last time" (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary) Steve: You write: 'You said: "It says HE died once for ALL, so there is no exception." On the surface I agree...' I just want to point out that when read in context, the verse referenced does not mean that He died once for all PEOPLE. As we can see from Romans 6:9-10, it means, Christ dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. He died ONCE; He died to sin ONCE AND FOR ALL TIME. There is no need and no possibility of His dying again. Romans 6:9-10 :: New King James Version (NKJV) 9knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Romans 6:9-10 :: New Living Translation (NLT) 9We are sure of this because Christ rose from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10He died once to defeat sin, and now he lives for the glory of God. Romans 6:9-10 :: Contemporary English Version (CEV) 9We know that death no longer has any power over Christ. He died and was raised to life, never again to die. 10When Christ died, he died for sin once and for all. But now he is alive, and he lives only for God. Romans 6:9-10 :: New International Reader's Version (NIRV) 9 We know that Christ was raised from the dead and will never die again. Death doesn't control him anymore. 10 When he died, he died once and for all time as far as sin is concerned. Now that he lives, he lives as far as God is concerned. Definition. once "4...- once and for all 1 : with finality : DEFINITIVELY 2 : for the last time" (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary) Steve, you make an excellent point that "we have NO Biblical examples of any person being saved without God's special revelation of Himself to that person."
