NASB | Acts 5:13 But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, the people held them in high esteem. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 5:13 But none of the rest [of the people, the non-believers] dared to associate with them; however, the people were holding them in high esteem and were speaking highly of them. |
Bible Question: Who are "the rest?" Are they the same as those who "held them in high esteem?" Is this the attitude that God desires - not joining but admiring? |
Bible Answer: That's an interesting question, Mom. I seem to find differing opinions. They seem to include: 1. The unconverted Jews. 2. The Jews and Christians alike. 3. The remaining 120 disciples of whom Ananias had been one. I actually lean toward 1 and 3. :-) How's that for ambivalent? :-) I do think that God wants men to "fish or cut bait." As in most things, it is hard for men to put their lives on the line. Remember how the Israelites didn't want to hear God directly, but wanted Moses to be a mediator? This sort of thing is built into the Adamic nature, I believe. |
