Bible Note: Dear Sister Azure, In Jewish culture, clapping hands, stomping feet, or hissing is a sign of profound disdain and disapproval (cf Job 27:23 and Lamentations 2:15). It is ritualized during Purim at the mention of the name of Haman as Ester is read. Sometimes people get a little exposure to practices, but do not yet understand all of the connotations. The implications to some schmo on the Internet are not nearly as serious an issue as is the failure to render proper deference to one's authorities within the church. American's have difficulty with submission, not so much because they are rebellious -- although that is a fundamental wickedness in the fallen nature of all men -- but because they do not know how to practice submission. Since it is not modeled for us, culturally or in the home, we do not even know that it is absent in our behavior. In Him, Doc PS Thank you, ma'am, for your support and encouragement for righteous actions and attitudes. |
