Subject: Church grafted into Israel? |
Bible Note: Sorry I am so late in responding. I still believe the "root" of the vine is Jesus. He is the root that supports us (Romans 11:18). As to John 15:1,2 referring to the Jews, I think the branches are Jesus's followers -- both Jew and Gentile. It is a warning that an unfruitful vine will be "thrown away as a branch". That's just what happened to the Jews. Those natural branches were broken off and wild vines (Gentiles) were grafted in. However, God is gracious and able to graft them in again (Romans 11:23) My Bible lists John 15:1 as a reference to Romans 11:17, so perhaps I am not alone in my opinion. However, I am aware that there are many layers to be understood. Though I don't think that as Emmaus said "Gentiles are grafted into Israel". If anything, I would rather say that we are "grafted" into being Abraham's children. If you wish to discuss this further, perhaps we should make our own thread. -Chris |
