Bible Question: In John 7:8, Jesus says that "I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come".. However, in verse 10 and 14, we read that not only did He go up (v. 10- in 'secret'), but He also began to teach (v. 14). Did He change his mind? Did He just want to go up alone? What do you make of John 7:8 in light of verses 10 and 14? |
Bible Answer: I believe that He did not go up to the feast with the disciples because He did not want to be the center of attention since His time had not come yet. According to the Life Application Bible commentary it states that Jesus had the greatest gift but he acted secretly because He knew that the religious leaders hated Him and the more He taught publicly the more trouble the religious leaders would make for Him. It was necessary for Him to teach as quietly as possible so that the trouble would not be stirred up prematurely. Another point to ponder is maybe Jesus acted secretly because the religious leaders had a lot of power over the Jews. If the people were warned off by the leaders before they heard Jesus message then they might not of gone to hear Him at all because of that fear. I think he did just want to go up alone and told His disciples it was not His time yet bcause it was not His time to go public full force. prayon |
