Subject: Are you being put to the test? |
Bible Note: Hi graceful, Thanks for those Scripture references. I would like to compare them with you later. You have offered a thoughtful question. I wonder however about when you talk about carnal solutions first and our own resources first in your last two sentences. In other words, they infer to me that our own resources are thought to be carnal or worldly. Can we consider that a minute? I think that since the fall we have had to work by the sweat of our faces, but it is still a worthwhile, godly thing to do. The world does not owe us a living and neither does God. But we find contentment and self-worth in a job well done, that feeds and clothes our family, and even gives us time once and a while to enjoy some other worthy pleasures in life. Genesis 3:19, "By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, Till you return to the ground..." But here in John 6:6 the Lord, not because He owes it to the people but because of His compassion, decides that He wants to give them bread without them "sweating" for it. But I see nothing wrong with exhausting first our own resources that we have worked to acquire; the problem comes when after they are gone we begin to be "anxious". We forget that the good health and abilities that enabled us to get our jobs and livelihood were God-given and all that we have and are, are from Him. He has been with us, and will be continue to be with us in easy times and hard, and we can be content in all things. But Jesus, although He wanted to give them bread to eat, for He is concerned about our physical welfare; mostly He is concerned about their spiritual welfare and He will be offering them the Bread of life, to my mind. I think that the multitudes, maybe not in this feeding of the thousands so much, had been following Him and had not given thought to what they would be eating. I think that Jesus in a sense was repaying them for this "forced fasting" for there was nowhere close for them to eat. It is in that regard that we can compare your Matthew 6 passage if you go back to verse 18, "so that you may not be seen fasting by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your *Father who sees in secret will repay you." 1) Matthew 6:24, "...You cannot serve God/ and mammon [Or, riches]. For this reason I say to you, [Or, stop being anxious] do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing?"...33 But seek FIRST His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you." So we should seek first the spiritual things, then keep working knowing (by faith) that God will provide the necessary physical things. 2) Philiippians 4:5b, "The *Lord is near. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God./ 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ (Jesus)." Philippians 4:19, "And my *God shall supply all your needs according to His/ riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Now to our (God) and Father be the glory forever and ever, Amen." Do you see that Jesus and the Father are one? The heavenly *Father saw the needs in secret, the *Lord was near and at hand to help, and our *God supplies all our needs according to His/ riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Jesus is God. John 6:6, "And this *He was saying to test him; for He/ knew what He was intending to do. From the heart, Ray |
