Bible Question: Mitch, Did Jesus heal all at Bethesda (John 5:2-9)? |
Bible Answer: Not Mitch but I would like to answer. I cannot say that anyone among the "great multitude" other than the impotent man was healed that day. But I can't say with any certainty they weren't either. We also aren't told anymore about the moving of the water and who may have received healing that day from it. I do read: Matthew 8:16 "...and He cast out the spirits with His word, and healed ALL that were sick" Luke 4:40"...and He laid His hands on EVERY ONE OF THEM, and healed them. Acts 10:38 "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing ALL that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him." I also read this: Mark 6:5 "And He could there do no mighty work, save that he laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them" Then in Matthew 13:58 speaking of them same instance as Mark 6:5 "And He did not many mighty works there because of their UNBELIEF." It was then, and is now, unbelief that keeps us from receiving our healing or any of the other wonderful marvelous gifts provided to us through Jesus' completed work. Not unbelief in Jesus Christ as Savior and redeemer, but unbelief in Jesus the healer, provider, deliverer, protector. Jesus said: "as thou has BELIEVED, so be it done unto thee" Mt. 8:13 "According to your FAITH be it unto you" Mt. 9:29 "If thou canst BELIEVE, all thing are possible to him that believeth" Mark 9:23 "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, BELIEVE that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." Mark 11:24 In Act 3:1-9 we see Peter and John going to the temple at the hour of prayer. We are told this certain man was lame from his mother's womb and was laid daily at the gate. Wouldn't this be a place Jesus passed many times before? Most likely passing the man? But something is different this day. Peter and John do not have a different Holy Ghost than Jesus. They have the same anointing (John 14:12 17:18 20:22) so what could be different? Could it be that this day when the lame man looked on them EXPECTING TO RECEIVE he was able to receive by faith the healing that had been there all along as Jesus passed by? (Compare Act 14:8-10 where Paul PERCEIVED" the impotent man had faith to be healed) Theresa |
