Bible Question: my question has nothing to do with john 3:16 but I saw no other way to get to ask my real question which is about predetermination or predestination are they only about receiving salvation or something more? |
Bible Answer: Hello, Hey... Welcome to the forum! That's a good question. The word predestination appears six times in the New Testament. The Greek word is proorizo; which is a compound word, pro (meaning beforehand, prior to) and horizo (to appoint, decree, specify). Hence: to determine ahead of the time of the event itself. Here are the six references (NASB): "...to do whatever Your [God's, cf v24] hand and Your purpose predestined to occur." (Acts 4:28) "For those whom He [God, cf v28] foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;" (Romans 8:29) "...and these whom He [God, cf v28] predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified." (Romans 8:30) "But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory." (1 Corinthians 2:7) "He [God, cf v3] predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will." (Ephesians 1:5) "Also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His [God's, cf v3] purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will." (Ephesians 1:11) Go back and read the references in their contexts. Using the rules of grammar that you already know, you will be able to readily discern the truth of the matter. In Him, Doc |
