Bible Note: Dear S. W., You tie Romans 6:1 to Romans 6:15, stating that "Paul sais the same question again and explains what happens if we do [continue to sin]" (sic) Such a relationship between these two verses is not warranted, nor do you establish one. You seem to have shifted your discussion of the question of one's ability to lose salvation to the question of whether Christians sin or not. It looks as though you are stating that if Christians sin then they lose their salvation. This is entirely different argument. (Please note: If you would stay focused, it would lend greater credence to your position.) You posit, without Scriptural support, "Plainly the scriptures declares that if you live in sin, although you call yourself a christian, you will no longer belong to Jesus." (sic) What the Scripture actually does support is that Christians are not characterized by habitual sin (cf. 1 John). Your subsequent references in John 8 make this same assertion. It appears that you reverse your position on the sinlessness of Christians when you say, "Note that this verse does'nt say that we never sin when we walk in the light, but the gospel surely teaches us to turn away from sin and confess it, in order to be cleansed. Jesus is able to help us all through prayer!" (sic) Actually, left by itself, I wouldn't have any argument with this statement. I have affirmed this doctrine myself -- with Scriptural support -- in previous posts in the forum. In Him, Doc |
