Bible Question: I was told that the same term used to mean "breathed into his nostrils the breath of life" (Gen. 2:7) is used in the new testament to describe when the apostles received the Holy spirit. If this is accurate information, does this mean that the holy spirit was with Adam? If so, when did it leave him? Was it just not passed down to his children? Was it because of sin? |
Bible Answer: Biffbt, In Jn 20:22, above, I personally, take that to mean a "symbolic conveyance" of the Power of the Holy Spirit unto the apostles. There were other instances of the apostles being "filled with the Spirit," (Acts 2:4) an act that is repeated elsewhere, so this means that this filling is not a permanent infusion. As for breathing life into Adam, We must consider the wording of the text. Whereas other creatures were 'Formed' Adam was 'Created', still, out of the clay of the earth. The spirit of man, however did not come from the earth, but from heaven above, from the One who created Adam in His Image. This is not saying that the Holy Spirit was breathed into Adam's nostrils, but the spirit of Adam, the soul of man. In His service, Me |
