Bible Question (short): Who were Mary's sisters? |
Question (full): I've come across a very interesting yet confusing verse. John 19:25 says, "Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene." Is this four people or three? Depends on how you read it. I then compared it with Matthew 27:56 which reads: "Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children." And also, Mark 15:40 which reads: "There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome" Here's my concern. I'm writing a book and need to know something very crucial - were Salome and Mary the mother of James the Less and the wife of Clopas, Mary's (Jesus mother) sisters? |
