NASB | John 18:37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 18:37 So Pilate said to Him, "Then You are a King?" Jesus answered, "You say [correctly] that I am a King. This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth [who is a friend of the truth and belongs to the truth] hears and listens carefully to My voice." [Dan 7:13, 14; Luke 1:32, 33] |
Bible Question: in Matthew it says when pilate asked Jesus if he was the King of the jews Jesus replied it is as you say.In mark again Jesus replies yes it is as you say.In Luke Jesus replies the same but in this book it says pilate ask the crowd I see basis for a charge for this man than went to herod witch none of the other books have.In john when pilate asks Jesus he says is that your idea or have others talk to you about me the other gospels do not have this. Also I have heard that in two different books it mentions Jesus turning over the tables one early in his ministry and the other near his crucifiction. can someone help me with these questions |
Bible Answer: Greetings 1way, First you have to remember that there were 4 different people writing the gospels. Each gospel is written in a different style with a different focus. Luke being a physician was more aware of details than the others therefore his book will be much more detailed. John's book focuses on the Diety of Christ. In His answer in John, John goes into more detail because the diety of Christ was being discussed. Different books will focus on different aspects of the same conversation or event. This is what was happening here. The Tables: The two times you mentioned (in Matthew and in Mark) are one in the same. The other instance you were referring to is in John 2:13-17. This was on the Passover at the beginning of Jesus ministry. Because the Jews never recognized the authority of Jesus as the Messiah. Instead they rejected His message making repeated cleansing of the temple highly probable. Hope this answers your questions. prayon |
