AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 18:28 ¶ Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium (governor's palace). Now it was early and the Jews did not enter the Praetorium so that they would not be [ceremonially] unclean, but might [be able to] eat [and participate in the Feast of Unleavened Bread which began after] the Passover [supper]. |
Bible Question (short): Follow: Is Last Supper a Passover? |
Question (full): Dear Emmaus, John 18:28 says that the Passover was going to be on that evening of the day Jesus was tried, sentenced, and crucified. Note that the Jews avoided entering the Praetorium lest they be defiled and not be able to celebrate the Passover. In fact Jesus was crucified on Preparation Day, the day the sacrificial lambs were killed for the Passover. Passover was on the evening of Preparation Day. Actually John did not say Jesus celebrated the Passover meal. John said it was a supper, and it was held on the evening just prior to the Passover evening. However, Matthew, Mark and Luke said it was the Passover. How can this be reconciled? Could it be that, because Jesus knew what going to happen that night, He celebrated "Passover" in advance?
