Bible Question: What is the difference between New Age and Christianity when they both refer to believing in Jesus Christ? How can I protect myself if I do not know the difference? I'm confused and would like some help, please. The more I learn, the more I'm confused about both or maybe I'm just not sure about the attacks that new agers use on me. Can I be protected from them? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Gen 1:11, 12, 21, 24, 25; 2:9, 17; 3:5, 22; 6:20; 7:14; Lev 19:31; 20:6, 27; 1 Kin 3:9; Jos 1:8, Psa 1:2, 34:14; Mat 5:45; John 17:21; Eph 2:1-3; Rom 12:9 ... GiVogue, There are 6 unifying factors in New Age thinking. -The first is monism--the belief that all is one and one is all. It says we all swim in one great cosmic ocean. Counterfeits John 17:21. -Second, all is God. If all is one, including God, then one must conclude that all is God--trees, snails, books and people are all of one divine essence. Counterfeits Gen 1:11, 12, 21, 24, 25; 6:20; 7:14. -A third unifying factor refers to a change in consciousness. If we are God, we need to know we are God. Their faith has no object, neither does their meditation, so it becomes an inward journey. To us, the essential issue is not whether we believe or mediate, but who we believe in and what we meditate upon. We believe God and meditate upon His law day and night (Jos 1:8, Psa 1:2). -The fourth unifying factor of the New Age Movement is a cosmic volutionary optimism. There is a New Age coming. There will be a new world order with a one-world government. New Agers believe in a progressive unification of world consciousness eventually reaching the "omega point." This is a counterfeit kingdom and we know who its prince is (Eph 2:1-3). -Fifth, New Agers create their own reality. They believe they can determine reality by what they believe, so by changing what they believe, they can change reality. There are no moral absolutes because there is no distinction between good and evil (1 Kin 3:9, Psa 34:14, Mat 5:45, Rom 12:9). Counterfeits Gen 2:9, 17; 3:5, 22.. - Sixth, New Agers make contact with the kingdom of darkness. Calling a medium a "channeler" and a demon a "spirit guide" has not changed the reality of what they are. They are in contact with the god of this world instead of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Lev 19:31; 20:6, 27). Adapted from Neil Anderson Devotional. (I added the Bible verses, expect for John 17:21). I hope this helps, Searcher |
