Bible Question: Can a person get into heaven by living a good, honest, charitable, compassionate life but not be a Christian? Any bible verses to back up answer? |
Bible Answer: John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. This is probably the most often used verse to support the fact that Jesus is only way to salvation. Here is another verse that we must be in Jesus for salvation. John 10:9 (NASB) 9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. Sin is universal Romans 3:23 (NASB) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 1 John 1:7-10 (NASB) 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. Mans righteousness falls short of God's holiness. Isaiah 64:6 (NASB) 6 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. When asked the Apostles said this is what must be done for salvation. Acts 2:37-42 (NASB) 37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" 38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 "For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself." 40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!" 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. 42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. |
