Bible Question:
When trying to witness to my son, Keith, about Christ, he says he believes in Rastafari (Bob Marley). When I told him that I didn't know what it was, he said it was a Jamacian "type" of the Christian religion. Does anyone know what this is, and what Scripture references I can use to enlighten my son to the truth? Please advise. Thanks! skalafut |
Bible Answer: Rastafari is nothing more than a humanist cult in a slightly different packaging, you can read all about it by doing a search on google.com for "rastafari" Ask your son how they feel about Jesus. Most cults hold Jesus as a good prophet or very wise man, but not God. Ask him if a 'good' prophet would ever lie? He will probably say no then show him where Jesus himself said John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Explain the significance of this. The Good Prophet which would never lie is saying the only way to the Father (God) is by or through Him. Let your son think on that for awhile while you pray and ask God to open your son’s eyes. If your son challenges you on the authenticity of the Bible. Challenge him to read it first before he pronounces judgement. If he hasn't read it he is only “parroting” what others have told him. remind him that he really isn't thinking for himself but is letting others develop what he believes. Ask him if he is sure they have his best interests at heart or are they just trying to get him to follow them. He needs to be making an informed decision and to make that decision he needs to read the Bible for himself. Then pray once again that God will open your son's eyes. The best way to fight any cult is use their own teachings to destroy them. Most claim to be open minded so use this as an entrance, show your son making decisions based on what others tell him is not being wise but being manipulated. If he wants to call Christianity wrong and Rastafari right he needs to study both for himself not listening to what others tell him but finding out for himself. The only way he can do it is reading and knowing what Jesus actually taught as recorded in the Bible not what others say Jesus said. Let him just read the New Testament if he complains about the amount of reading. If he refuses even that then have him read just the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and then have him sit down and tell you why Rastafari is better than Christianity. You may want to do a little studying yourself. Make sure your in prayer for you son's soul, if you try to approach this in the flesh, you both will end up in arguments and nothing will get resolved. You have a challenge before you I suggest you get on your knees. EdB |
