Bible Question:
When we discuss the Bible, we often call it the "Word of God." I understand the texts about inspiration (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). My question, rather, is about the phrase "Word of God" in scripture. When John's Gospel begins with Jesus being the Word, this is clearly a reference to Genesis. But when people link this to the Bible, is that accurate? Is that what is intended, or a later metaphorical interpretation? With Hebrews 4:12, does the Word of God refer to scripture? How does that work within the context of "God's rest" etc? How about Hebrews 11:3? Hmmm.... 1 Peter 1:23 (and following) is interesting. Wow : there is a wealth in this book, this Word of God. Your help in unpacking it would be appreciated! |
Bible Answer: 1.The preached word was called the 'word of God' by Paul. 2. Paul says that when you heard it you did not receive it as words of men but rather the word of God. 3.The PROOF that is is the word of God is in the final statement.."performs it's work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. Hebrews 9:1-3 Tells us that if we enter His rest by receiving the preached word by faith. 1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. Faith that the Bible has been protected by God and retained it's Spirit breathed quality can only be tested and proved by a believer willing to take it at the Word and stand by faith in what it says. Thus it becomes the living Word in and through us when it reveals to the world the will of God. Romans 12:2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may PROVE what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. God bless |
