Subject: For Jews, 7 of anything was plenty |
Bible Note: In Hebrew, the number 7 signifies completeness. For a person to have 7 demons may indicate that she was completely possessed. Because she was a woman, seven demons may be a euphanism indicating Mary Magdalene committed every kind of sin, including sexual sins. From there it is a simple, but not a necessary jump, to assume that she was a prostitute. This may account for the urban legend that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. Regardless, Mary was a very fallen woman who was redeemed by the love of Jesus. Her spiritual resurrection offers hope for anyone recovering from slavery to sin. |
