NASB | Luke 5:32 "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 5:32 "I did not come to call the [self-proclaimed] righteous [who see no need to repent], but sinners to repentance [to change their old way of thinking, to turn from sin and to seek God and His righteousness]." |
Bible Question: If "to repent" means to turn from sin to God,rather than just feel regret or sorrow for it, then isn't it a work? |
Bible Answer: Hi rusty.com, Repentance is from the Greek "metanoia", which means "change of mind". It's not a work in itself, but is rather your intent to cease the evil works, and begin the Godly works. Its not something that you do, but rather expresses that you've chosen to do differently than you have done, that you have changed your mind, an now want to obey God. I hope this helps!
