Subject: Why don't we follow Luke 4:16 |
Bible Note: Doesn't say Lord's day in scripture but we have evidence in scripture that the first day of the week, Sunday was when they met. Acts 20:7 (NASB) 7 On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. 1 Corinthians 16:2 (NASB) 2 On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come. Also we see in the writings of the church Fathers that they did indeed meet on Sunday which they considered the Lord's day. In fact some Jews that clung to the old would meet on the Sabbath day with fellow Jews and then with Christians on Sunday. Both Paul and the writer of Hebrews wrote against the practice of holding onto Jewish traditions. Interestingly the Lord's day became synonymous with the day of the Second coming of the Lord. 1Cor 1:8; 1Th5:2; 2Pet 3:10 |
