Bible Question: What is the name of Mary's (mother of Jesus) parents? Particularly her father's name? |
Bible Answer: The lineage of Jesus given in Luke 3 is considered to be the genealogy of Mary his mother done in Jewish form where the fathers name would be substituted for the mother. Therefore Mary's fathers name would be Heli son of Matthat. This subject has been discussed many times before if you look at Matthew 1 and Luke 3 you will see two genealogies of Jesus but their different. Matthew’s is done through Joseph showing that Jesus the adopted son of Joseph would have claim to the throne of David. This genealogy goes from David to Solomon and follows the kingly lineage. The genealogy in Luke however is through David to Mary showing Jesus had blood lineage to David. This genealogy was through David to his son Nathan a righteous son. We are not given the name of Mary’s mother. EdB |
