Bible Question: In Luke 23:46 How do a christian give up the ghost? |
Bible Answer: Hi cpowell, The word "ghost" in the King James is translated "spirit" in the New King James. (Also Holy Ghost, KJ, and Holy Spirit, NKJ). For Luke 23:46 the NKJ and the NASB chose to translate it "And having said this, He breathed His last." The literal translation would be "And saying this, He breathed out the spirit." or "And after He said these things, He expired." So the Greek word "pneuma" is wind, spirit, breath. You ask how a Christian should breathe his last. I would hope that we would do as Christ did and commit our spirit into the Father's hand, looking at the righteousness of Jesus for us. Luke 23:47, "So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous Man!"" It would be great for us to hear a "Well done, thou good and faithful servant". It would be good for us to know when we breathe our last, that people could look at us and see that we lived our lives as sons of God. 1) I think also that the word of God, and the words of God, (the spirit of God) should fill us and we should give out those words in witness to others; all through our lives.
