Bible Question: What does "generation" here mean? What was the original Greek word, and is it stretching it to believe "generation" means "age" or "nation'? |
Bible Answer: Autumn: In Luke21:32 the greek word yevea signifies a betting, or birth; then that which has begotten, a family; or successive members of a genealogy. The word came to mean an age,ie., a period ordinarily occupied by each successive generation, say, of thirty or fourty years. This acme from VINES EXPOSITORY DICTIONARY OF NEW TESTAMENT WORDS by W.E. Vine, M.A. Royal Publishers, INC Nashville, Tennessee September 1952. Second printing 1983. This is an excellent tool when used with parallel New Testament in Greek and Hebrew. These are in print and what every Christian should have do do a word study. I think a Christian with out a good solid base of books to help in language and Concordance is not taking their responsiblity to grow very seriously. The problem is few know how to share what it is will make the Bible easier to understand. Bible study is a life time of study. I hope this helps. agape, justme |
