NASB | Luke 2:35 and a sword will pierce even your own soul--to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 2:35 and a sword [of deep sorrow] will pierce through your own soul--so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." |
Subject: What are the thoughts that were revealed |
Bible Note: Makarios has a good answer. The thoughts of many hearts were revealed that day (the Roman Centurion’s declaration, “Truly this was the son of God,” for example, expresses beutifully his own heart’s conversion), and are still revealed up to this very day. I don’t think Simeon’s oracle had its fulfillment on Calvary. The world continues to encounter Christ daily “so that,” like it or not, “the thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” |
