Bible Question (short): Joseph: Jesus' father? |
Question (full): The King James Bible and NKJV have Luke saying "Joseph and his (Jesus') mother" in 2:33, whereas the modern versions I've consulted render it "His father and mother." Can the difference be accounted for because of a difference in the manuscript texts that were used? Surely it could not be attributed to sloppiness of translation or to an attempt of the translators of modern versions to strip Jesus of His deity, do you suppose? I know we interpret the passage to mean that Joseph was Jesus' legal father, but that's not what the passage says in the modern versions, except the NKJV, which reads as the KJV. Any thoughts? --Hank |
