Bible Question: So you are saying that there is no clearly dileanable scripture regarding baby dedication and this is an area left up to conscience? |
Bible Answer: Most babies in the world are not dedicated to the Lord. But probably like any government, they register every born baby, for Census and Statistic Purpose. The Registration Certificates are also used when babies grow old and are enrolled in School. In the Philippines, when babies are brought to the Church for Dedication Rites, parents are issued by the Church the Babies Dedication Certificates. In cases the baby was not registered or otherwise; parents use the Dedication Certificates as Status Evidence in enrolling their children. STATUS PROOF of the name of the child, parents, birthday, birthplace, etc. It will answer the School Enrolment Requirements. Dedication does not substitute Government Regitartion Certificates but they are accepted as proof for the status of the child. CHILD DEDICATION I believe is a Practise that has been carried by our Christian Churches. It is not by conscience alone but by good faith. I think to dedicate or offer aour babies to the Lord would mean few significant things: It is a RECOGNITION that the babies are special gifts to parents. It means ACKNOWLEDGEMENT that we, parents are accepting the babies in good faith. It also means COMMITMENT; it is commiting back the child to the Lord for divine protection. It is a time of THANKSGIVING. During Child Dedication, parents choose sponsors or witnesses. They also stand as second parents, in case parents died at the age when the child has not yet reached the age of accountability; the second parents takes the full responsibility over the child. MOUNTAIN PEOPLE also dedicate their babies. Where do they get the idea of Child Dedication? It could probably be PARENTAL INSTINCT to do offer their babies to a Supreme Being they worship as their god. I think it is more INSTINCT than CONSCIENCE; perhaps to Christians CONSCIENCE may apply because we know that anything that we have should be dedicated or offered to the Lord. I hope I contributed to the answers already given to you. TONY AND JOY arapga@info.com.ph |
