Bible Question: why were repentance and baptism important initial steps in responding to the Christian message |
Bible Answer: Repentance is having a change of mind about the direction you are going. To repent from sin is to have a change of mind about to sin. But changing your mind must be followed by changing your walk. You cannot walk the Christian life on your own. You must have the power of the Holy Spirit indwelling you. This comes from realizing you are a sinner separated from God and that Jesus Christ, His Son, came to save you from your sins. You repent (change your mind) and ask Him to take control of your life. You confess your sin to Him and ask Him to take your sins away. When you are water baptized, you are giving the outward sign of what has already happened to the inward person. You have become a brand new creation in Christ Jesus. Now, you want to show that in word picture form. Romans 6 talks about how we are baptized into His death, burial, and raised up to NEWNESS OF LIFE. It is your testimony to others that you are NOT ashamed. It is completely identifying yourself with Him. In the Greek, the word is described as a white cloth being dipped in red dye and then taking on the color of the red dye. The Bible says we will be clothed in Jesus. He becomes our complete identity. Do you need Scripture references for all of this? Will you email me at DoggieGrace@msn.com .....
