Subject: Speaking badly of another Christian |
Bible Note: Truth and integrity is a precious commodity that we must protect, seek out and treasure. Yet recently in our society we see these virtues being less and less protected and treasured. In fact it has become accepted by many as being okay to lie, it is expected that everyone lies. Also integrity is viewed as something as some kind of old fashion hindrance to the adage “If it feels good do it as long as it does not harm anyone.†That is much of our society today. But what concerns me the most is when it becomes the standard by which many so call Christians live. We have theologians, evangelist, teachers and preachers speaking lies and living without integrity before us. I am sure we all can name someone that meets this description. Some justify lying saying, “The end justify the means.†Which in effect is saying if I don’t like something I can lie about it. We often see this occur when one denominational group talks about another denominational position. We are admonished throughout scripture not to bear false witness but more importantly we are to speak kindly of Christian brethren. We are to seek to be peace makers, a position hard to fill while making inflammatory remarks about others. Oh we can justify such behavior by saying I did not say it I merely quoted it. Fact Jesus never instructed his apostles to speak badly about others Christian theology. In fact Jesus said Mark 9:40 (NKJV) 40 "For he who is not against us is on our side. |
