NASB | Mark 7:19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 7:19 since it does not enter his heart, but [only] his stomach, and [from there it] is eliminated?" (By this, He declared all foods ceremonially clean.) |
Bible Question: does this mean eat what you will? as Jesus said in Mark 7:19, and this over rides GOD's laws about what to eat? as in Leviticus 11:7, Deuteronomy 14:8, Isaiah 65:4;66:17, I think it does, but could use some wisdom on this... |
Bible Answer: considering the context in which this passage was given, it would appear to me that all FOODS were declared clean. According to the law given to Moses, unclean meats were NOT food, but an abomination. In the context of the custom of handwashing immediately before food (this custom still exists to this day), Yah'shua wasn't declaring all that entered the mouth food, he was declaring that eating without the ceremonial handwashing didn't defile what was already acceptable food. Similarly, when Peter had the vision of unclean animals in the sheet, it was interesting to note that even at that point, he didn't seem to think that Yah'shua had declared all animals clean. Even after said vision, he declared that his understanding of the vision was pertaining to the acceptance of gentiles for salvation. |
