Bible Question: what does Jesus mean by ' shake the dust off your sandels as you leave'? |
Bible Answer: Greetings mrchadly, The primary verses to look at are Matthew 10:14, Mark 6:11 and Luke 9:5. "6:11 shake the dust off. An action that symbolized a complete break in fellowship and a renunciation of all further responsibility (see Acts 13:51; 18:6)." (1) "[Matthew 10:14] ...It was common for Jews to shake the dust off their feet- as an expression of disdain- when returning from Gentile regions. Paul and Barnabas also did this when expelled from Antioch (Acts 13:51). This was a visible protest, signifying that they regarded the place as no better than a pagan land." (2) Blessings to you, Makarios Sources: (1) Ryrie Study Bible, Expanded Edition, 1995, The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago (2) MacArthur Study Bible, 1997, Word Publishing |
