By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]--and more will be given to you besides. |
Bible Question: What does this mean? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Starr, Mark 4:24 "And he said to them, "Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you." (ESV) This verse is similar to Matthew 7:2 (talks about judging) and Luke 6:38 (talks about giving), but the context that is implied within this verse is a bit different: "4:24 With the same measure. The spiritual results which the disciples realized were to be based on the amount of effort they put forth; they would reap as they had sown. more will be given. The one who has learned spiritual truth and applied it diligently will receive even more truth to faithfully apply." (1) In Matthew 7:2, the context is speaking about judging others and Luke 6:38 speaks about giving, but the context here is about spiritual gain.
